In the days after Hurricane Harvey’s catastrophic rainfall and flooding forever changed the landscape of Houston, TX, Angela Blanchard set up a shelter in the NRG Center to house 10,000 people. How long did she have to set it up? 24 hours. Just days later, Angela joined us on the BIF2017 stage to share her story and Houston’s story.
“So thank you so much for allowing me to be here and tell my story while it’s still fresh. This is a story I really have been in agony to tell, because for a long, long time now I have been fascinated by the stories of people whose lives have been upended, by people who’ve had the pilings pulled from under them, and everything’s turned upside down, and all the props that we rely on all the time to tell us who we are and what we mean in the world, just wash away.” – Angela Blanchard, BIF2017
