Business Innovation Factory Seeks Design Director

The Business Innovation Factory seeks an ambitious and talented Design Director to lead work in the BIF Experience Labs. This is a full time staff position based out of BIF headquarters in Providence, Rhode Island.

Responsibilities

The Design Director is tasked with managing and conducting project work in BIF's Experience Labs. BIF currently runs Experience Labs in the health care and education arenas and expects to bring additional Lab's on-line in 2010. The Design Director has day-to-day responsibility for projects in the Labs and is responsible for managing support staff associated with these assignments. The Design Director is responsible for the following activities:

• Design and conduct user-centered research
• Plan and conduct single client and multi-partner collaborations focused on the design and testing of new solutions that advance systems-level innovation in areas of high social impact
• Conceptualize and conduct qualitative and ethnographic work on behalf of Lab partners. This work includes identifying, selecting and recruiting participants, conducting interviews and observational research, integrating relevant secondary research, managing data capture, and conducting analysis and synthesis of research findings
• Manage project timelines and budgets
• Play an active role in the design of web, print and presentation materials for internal and external presentation
• Collaborate with the BIF team across all verticals of the organization to fully leverage Lab activities in BIF's overall mission and strategy.

Requirements

Qualified applicants should demonstrate the following skills:

• Significant professional experience leading teams in conducting rigorous user-centered research and user-centered design and development programs
• Proven leadership and management skills
• Strong client management and public communication skills
• A passion for user-centric design and systems-level innovation
• The desire to contribute to BIF's efforts to build a world class innovation capability
