Matt Cottam

Matt Cottam studied Industrial Design at Rhode Island School of Design. In the 10 years since graduation he has been teaching courses at RISD on topics including product and service design, physical computing, design for emergency medicine, and human habitation and life support in extreme environments. Matt is a Paramedic for the Department of Health and Human Services as well as the National Ski Patrol. Since 2004 he has been a faculty member at the Design Institute Umeå in Sweden, where he teaches the Experience Prototyping Course. In 2000 Matt co-founded Tellart, a product, service, and environment design firm with offices in Rhode Island and California.

Matt lead the Storytelling aspects of the Nursing Home of the Future project, editing and synthesizing primary and secondary research findings to shape the project’s mission, core messages and overarching narrative.
