A Radical Rethinking of Current Models
More than ever, education is the key to tomorrow's economic and social success. Yet today's educational institutions, from K-16 to adult learning, are struggling to adapt models developed for the Industrial Age, to create the learning environments of tomorrow. In the BIF Student Experience Lab, educational entrepreneurs are working with forward-thinking school administrators, visionary corporations, and workforce development non-profits to fundamentally rethink the meaning of "teaching". These example projects are then tied into national efforts to transform our educational systems.

Student Labs: Big Picture Company/BIF Education Laboratory
The Big Picture Company and the Business Innovation Factory (BIF) announced a partnership to create an experimental platform for testing new approaches in education. Through this alliance, The Big Picture Company, a nationally recognized leader in education innovation, will partner in the build-out of BIF's Student Experience Lab and expand its efforts to create new models for teaching and learning. Student Labs: BIF – FIRST Statewide Robotics Program
The FIRST Vex™ Challenge (FVC) is a mid-level robotics competition for high-school students. It offers the traditional challenge of a FIRST competition but with a more accessible and affordable robotics kit. In October 2006, the Business Innovation Factory and the Rhode Island Science and Technology Advisory Council partnered to offer Dean Kamen's FIRST Vex™ Challenge to each of Rhode Island's 67 public high schools, charter schools, and career and technical centers.
